In the world of martial arts, Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ) stands out as a highly effective combat system that emphasizes ground fighting and submission holds. Developed in Brazil in the early 20th century, BJJ has gained immense popularity worldwide for its practicality, efficiency, and emphasis on technique over brute strength.

Originating from the Japanese martial art of Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu flourished thanks to Judo master Mitsuyo Maeda, imparting his expertise to the Gracie family in Brazil. Their contributions transformed BJJ into an art centered on leverage, timing, and technique – prioritizing these over sheer strength. This shift has made Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu accessible and beneficial for individuals of all sizes and physical capabilities.
Eddie Bravo famously defeated Royler Gracie in their match at the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship in 2003. Bravo’s win showcased his unique style of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, called 10th Planet jiu-jitsu, with innovative techniques specifically tailored for grappling without the traditional use of the gi. The historic event also played a key role in the growth of submission-only tournaments, which emphasize finishing the fight through submissions rather than relying on points.
10th Planet Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a no-gi grappling martial art emphasizing the importance of controlling an opponent through various positions and holds in order to encourage submission. Key techniques in jiu-jitsu include joint locks, chokes, and positional control. These techniques allow a smaller, weaker individual to neutralize an attacker’s strength and size advantages through the efficient use of leverage and body mechanics. Jiu-jitsu practitioners learn how to apply and escape from submissions while maintaining control and positioning on the ground.
At 10th Planet Beaumont, our core philosophy in BJJ revolves around “position before submission.” This principle underscores the importance of mastering dominant positions like mount and back control. Prioritizing position empowers our practitioners to exercise full control over opponents, enhancing the chances of achieving successful submissions.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has had a significant impact on the martial arts landscape and popular culture. It revolutionized the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) in the early years of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) when small fighters dominated larger opponents on the ground, demonstrating the importance of ground fighting and technical proficiency. Since then, BJJ has become a staple in MMA training, with many fighters incorporating it into their arsenal. BJJ’s influence extends beyond MMA, as it has also gained popularity in fitness gyms, self-defense circles, and law enforcement training.

Some of the best BJJ training to be had in the country! If you live close enough to train here, your incredibly lucky!.
Went in for information on classes and was immediately greeted warmly and felt very welcomed!.
Great environment for the kids. I would recommend anyone to bring their kids here. Instructors are true professional on their art and they are passionate about sharing their skills..
Head instructor (Brown Belt) definitely a high level black belt, but his head coach lives in Los Angeles. So don't be fooled by the brown belt. He does have his own standard of promoting and it's pretty high. A few of his top guys would be considered brown maybe even black belts anywhere else in the area. If you want a blue belt I wouldn't miss any classes for at least a year and a half and you might want to be productive in competition.
Besides that the jujitsu is great and the coaching is seco.
Probably (technique wise) the best school in South East Texas..
If you have done any research on Jiu-Jitsu you know that 10th Planet is at the forefront of innovation in the art. This place is amazing. They treated me like a long lost friend when I visited last year. The facility is clean, the instructors are kind, professioinal, and skilled, and everyone is treated as equals. It's a fantastic environment. I highly recommend this place!.
I travel all over the country for work and was able to drop in and train here while in town.
If you follow mma, jui jitsu, or Joe Rogan then you've heard of 10th planet.
These guys are the real deal. It was my first time at a 10p and I was not disappointed. Nicest group you'll ever meet and absolute killers on the mat. Their blue belts seemed like high level purples. Plus they were so friendly i felt like family right off the bat.
I took the muay thai, fitness kickboxing and jui jitsu. I was rea.
Brian "Barncat" Debes the real deal! Exciting atmosphere, and he's very intuitive with the students..
This gym is easily the best place to train no gi jiu jitsu in the southeast Texas area. Not to mention the kickboxing and mma programs are excellent as well. It's a wonderful facility with tons of mat space. The instructors are extremely knowledgable and super supportive and helpful! Also, the mats are cleaned every day after practice which is awesome! The atmosphere is super friendly and all the students help each other get better at this combative martial art. The program is absolutely the b.
